I'm Connor!

If you’ve followed me on Instagram for any length of time, you know that I’m an avid Peloton enthusiast. I’ve been riding since December 2020, but I’ve made it my priority to show up for myself 3-5 times a week on the bike over the last ten weeks. Since committing to the “Peloton lifestyle,” I’ve learned there are a few Peloton bike essentials that have made my rides more productive, enjoyable, and successful!

Peloton Bike Essential #1 – Fan

My number one Peloton bike essential is a fan! When I’m on the bike, I give it my all. I added a fan to our workout room a few weeks ago, and I was blown away by the difference it made (see what I did there?)! It made a tremendous difference in adding my body’s ability to stay cool. The circulated air also keeps you from feeling like you’re in a “heavy” atmosphere due to the heat your body is giving off.

Peloton Bike Essential #2 – Mat for the Bike

Of all of the Peloton bike essentials on this list, purchasing a mat is a must. Whether your bike is on tile, hardwood, or any other material, make sure you protect your floors and put a mat under your bike. Not only does a mat keep your floors from the indents that your Peloton bike can cause, but it’s also substantially more sanitary.

*Make sure you are cleaning the floor and mat around your bike. When you sweat, germs and bacteria are inevitably present. So be sure to keep your space safe and clean after each ride.

Peloton Bike Essential #3 – Clorox Wipes

Clorox wipes are a non-negotiable must when it comes to riding your Peloton. My husband and I share our Peloton.

Peloton Bike Essential #4 – Microfiber Towels

I keep a plush microfiber towel draped over the handlebars of our bike at all times. When I start to sweat, I love to be able to dab my forehead and face with a soft towel. If you’re not a fan of microfiber, make sure you select a fabric that is gentle on your skin. Don’t wipe (it’s too harsh), instead dab.

Peloton Bike Essential #5 – Screen Wipes

Like any touch screen, your Peloton screen is prone to fingerprints and smudges. So we like to wipe our screen down with a sanitizing wipe (Clorox is just fine) followed by a screen wipe. It keeps our screen sanitary, clear, and it’s a great way to set yourself up for success for your next ride.

Peloton Bike Essential #6 – Water bottle

Before I jump on the bike, I grab two Smartwater water bottles or one large Evian bottle from our fridge. I gravitate towards Smartwater or Evian for three reasons. First, the water has electrolytes which you definitely will need to replenish post-ride. Gatorade that is low in sugar is a great option too!. Second, the size of the water bottle is perfect! A normal-sized water bottle has 12-16 oz. A standard Smartwater bottle has 33.8 fl oz, and a large Evian has 50.7 fl oz. When I was using the smaller bottles, I kept having to stop mid-ride to grab another. With two bottles of Smartwater or one Evian bottle, I know I have enough water to stay on the bike for an hour.

Peloton Bike Essential 71 – Apple Watch or Heart Rate Tracker

I am still rocking the series 3 Apple Watch and love it! I fully intend on using it until it dies. To sync your Apple watch to your Peloton, open the Peloton app on your watch and hold your watch up to the bike’s camera and wait for the syncing process to complete. Rather than going through the syncing process, I prefer to select the “indoor cycle” option from the workout menu on my watch and begin my class. I love to keep track of the calories I burn and close my rings on my watch.

Peloton Bike Essential #8 – Comfortable clothes

It has taken me a long time to figure out my clothing preferences when it comes to riding. I’ve tried riding in leggings, t-shirts, etc. Time and time again, I gravitate towards riding in biker shorts and a sports bra. As someone who tends to overheat, I like to wear as little clothing as possible when I ride.

Pro Tip: After my ride, I prep the bike for the next ride! I put water bottles on the bike, wipe our Peloton down and wipe the screen. I have found that if the bike is set up for the next time, I’ve already set myself up for success, and it protects your mental headspace as you get ready to ride.
